The Town of Brookline’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will conduct a visual assessment of residential solid waste and recycling carts beginning Monday, April 8.
The Department is gathering data on the age and condition of waste carts currently in use. Residents on town service are requested to leave all Town-issued waste and recycling carts on the curb until 5 p.m. on their waste collection day, even if they have been emptied earlier in the day.
The waste assessment will take place from Monday, April 8, to Saturday, April 20, to provide staff with sufficient time to conduct the assessment. Waste and recycling carts should be placed curbside regardless of whether they contain waste, so that the condition of all carts can be assessed.
“Most municipal waste and recycling carts were issued approximately 10 years ago,” Kevin Johnson, DPW Director of Highway and Sanitation, said, “This cart assessment will provide the DPW will valuable data regarding the condition and size of waste and recycling carts currently in use by residents and inform the timeline for the purchase and issuance of replacement carts.”
Residents are advised that waste collection will be delayed by one day on the week of April 15 due to the Patriots’ Day holiday. Friday’s trash route will be collected on Saturday, April 20. Please contact the DPW at dpwinfo@brooklinema.gov or 617-730-2156 with any questions or concerns.
