The 122nd US Open, golf’s third major of the year, teed off today at The Country Club. This year’s tournament marks the fourth time it’s emanated from Brookline.
Gov. Baker and Lt. Gov Polito Pay a Visit to Unified Command Center
The day began early at the Unified Command Center, where town and emergency management staff welcomed Gov. Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov Karyn Polito for a tour of the facility. During the visit, Deputy Police Superintendent Paul Cullinane was recognized for his efforts in coordinating the parking and transportation management plan that’s in effect this week.
Town Administrator Mel Kleckner was also recognized for his years of service to the town, as he plans to move on from his position this fall.
Call Center Open to Answer Residents’ Questions
The US Open Call Center has been open and staffed since the beginning of the week, and volunteers answered just over a dozen calls today — down considerably from earlier in the week. Residents with questions about how the Championship is affecting normal town operations can call 617-879-5636 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. through the end of the US Open on Sunday.

The Brookline Select Board visited The Country Club and the Unified Command Center Tuesday, where they met with public safety leaders and representatives from The Country Club.
The US Open Gets Underway!
After multiple practice rounds earlier in the week, The US Open finally got underway Thursday. As of early afternoon, four players had completed their first rounds tied at 3 under par: Callum Tarren, David Lingmerth, Rory McIlroy and Joel Dahmen.
